If you’re planning a trip to Rome, this post is a must-read!  Thank you for listening to another episode of Riveting Trips with Jeanie Colclough Podcast.  It’s available on all your podcast services!

The Jubilee Year: What to Expect in 2025

The Jubilee year is a special event, and while it may seem daunting, Marilena assures us it’s entirely manageable. “I’ve experienced two Jubilees, and believe me, it’s not a big deal. Yes, there will be more people, but we’ll manage.”

What to Watch Out For:

St. Peter’s Basilica: This will be the busiest area, with more restrictions due to papal ceremonies. However, with private tours, you can still have an enriching experience with minimal hassle.

Family-Friendly Activities in Rome

Exploring Vatican Museums with Children

One of the top attractions in Rome is the Vatican Museums, and they can be enjoyed by children too. Italy with Class offers a child-friendly version of the Vatican Museum tours, focusing on fun sections like the Popemobile and mummies in the Egyptian section. “It’s important to have a kid-friendly guide”, Marilena says, “Someone who can adapt to the curiosity and energy levels of children.”

The Colosseum and Gladiator School

The Colosseum is a must-see for kids and adults alike. To make it even more engaging, Italy with Class offers a Gladiator School experience. “Kids get to dress like gladiators and learn all about ancient Roman warriors from an actual gladiator,” Marilena explains. Combine this with a visit to the Colosseum for a thrilling day.

Golf Cart Tours

Ease into your trip with a golf cart tour around Rome. Ideal for the first day when jet lag might be an issue, this light tour takes you through Rome’s highlights with the breeze in your hair. Marilena suggests stops for pizza and gelato along the way to keep kids happy and energized.

Cooking Classes

Engage your children’s creativity and taste buds with a variety of cooking classes. From pizza making to gelato crafting, these sessions not only offer a break from sightseeing but also provide a peek into Italian culinary traditions.

The Appian Way and Beyond

For families wanting to step off the beaten path, the Appian Way offers a historical adventure. Hire bicycles and explore the ancient cobblestone road that is over 2,000 years old. For those more interested in staying in the city, Villa Borghese is perfect for a relaxed day with no traffic, boating, and rented bikes.
